Description
A moist and fluffy red velvet cake with a hint of cocoa, tangy buttermilk, and smooth cream cheese frosting. Perfect for any occasion!
Ingredients
– 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
– 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
– 1 tsp baking soda
– ½ tsp salt
– 2 tbsp natural cocoa powder
– ½ cup vegetable oil
– 1 cup buttermilk
– 2 tbsp ground flaxseed (for egg substitute)
– 6 tbsp hot water
– 1 tsp red food coloring
– 1 tsp white vinegar
– 1 tsp vanilla extract
– 1 recipe cream cheese frosting
Instructions
- 1. Prepare Batter: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C), grease & line cake pans. Mix dry ingredients, whisk wet ingredients separately, then combine.
2. Bake: Divide batter into pans and bake for 25-30 minutes. Cool completely.
3. Make Frosting: Beat butter and cream cheese, add powdered sugar and vanilla, mix until smooth.
4. Assemble: Frost and layer the cake, decorate as desired.
Notes
- For natural coloring, use beet powder instead of food dye. Store cake in the fridge for up to 5 days.
- The cake can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
