Ingredients
3 to 4 pounds Beef Brisket
1 cup Beef Broth
1/4 cup Apple Cider Vinegar
2 tablespoons Brown Sugar or Maple Syrup
1 tablespoon Smoked Paprika
1 tablespoon Garlic Powder
1 tablespoon Onion Powder
Salt and Black Pepper to taste
1 teaspoon Liquid Smoke (Optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Spice Rub: In a small bowl, combine the smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and your sweetener of choice. Mix them thoroughly until the rub is consistent in color
- Season the Beef: Pat the beef brisket dry with paper towels. Rub the spice mixture over all sides of the meat, pressing it firmly into the surface
- Sear the Meat (Optional): Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat with a splash of oil. Sear the brisket for 3-4 minutes per side until a brown crust forms
- Set Up the Slow Cooker: Place the seasoned brisket into the bottom of the slow cooker. Pour the beef broth, apple cider vinegar, and liquid smoke around the sides of the meat
- Cook Low and Slow: Cover the slow cooker with its lid. Set the temperature to Low and cook for 8 to 10 hours
- Shred and Serve: Once cooked, remove the brisket to a cutting board and shred with two forks. Return to the slow cooker for 15 minutes to soak up remaining juices
Notes
Let the seasoned meat sit in the refrigerator for an hour before cooking for best flavor.
Always place the brisket in the slow cooker with the fat cap facing up.
